RESOLUTION 290-1995
A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE EFFORTS
OF INTERESTED PARTIES THROUGH THEIR
DISTRICT III ADVISORY COMMITTEE IN THE
ESTABLISHMENT OF ARTIFICIAL REEFS
SURROUNDING MARATHON
WHEREAS, the Monroe County Tourist Development Council (TDC) has established their
concern for the preservation of the Keys' natural reef; and
WHEREAS, the fishing and diving industries playa vital role in the tourist industry throughout
the Florida Keys; and
WHEREAS, artificial reefs have been established throughout the Florida Keys to alleviate the
stress on the natural reef; and
WHEREAS, the creation of artificial reefs will serve to lessen the impact on the reefs
surrounding Marathon; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Monroe County Tourist Development Council
who represents the Florida Keys and Key West as follows:
Section 1: The Keys' natural reef is under pressure from fishing and diving interests.
Section 2: The TDC recognizes the important of preserving the Keys' natural reefs.
Section 3:
The TDC supports District III Advisory committees' commitment to the creation of
artificial reefs for use by fishing and dividing interests to lessen the impact on the reef
system surrounding Marathon. _"
