A RESOLUTION APPROVING THE "3-LANE
ALTERNATIVE" AS SET FORTH IN THE STATEMENT
OF AGENCY COMMITMENTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE
WIDENING OF UoS. HIGHWAY ONE BE1WEEN KEY

tflHelEJS, the Florida Keys have been legislatively designated an Area of Critical

State Concern and State and Federal agencies have recognized that intergovernmental
coordination is necessary and essential to preserving the fragile ecology of the Florida Keys
while maintaining the Area's viability; and
WHEREAS, a "Statement of Agency Commitments Associated With The Widening
Of U.S. Highway One Between Key Largo And Mainland Florida" has been prepared by
Monroe County, State and Federal agencies; and
WHEREAS, the viability of "2-lane," "3-lane" and "4-lane" U.S. Highway One
widening options have been considered by Monroe County's staff and Board of County
Commissioners; and
WHEREAS, Monroe County finds that the "3 -lane alternative" as described in the
Statement of Agency Commitments is the most viable proposal of those considered, because
it balances the needs for a widened highway with safeguards designed to address secondary
impacts,
NOW THEREFORE, it is RESOLVED that the Board of County Commissioners of
Monroe County:
(1) approves the "3-lane alternative" as set forth In the Statement of Agency
Commitments Associated with the Widening of U.S. Highway One Between Key Largo and
Mainland Florida; and
(2) approves the Statement of Agency Commitments Associated with the Widening of
U.So Highway One Between Key Largo and Mainland Florida; and
(3) authorizes the Mayor to execute the Statement of Agency Commitments Associated
with the Widening of UoSo Highway One Between Key Largo and Mainland Floridao
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe County,
Florida, at a regular meeting of the Board held on the 7thdayof September , 1995, AoD.
