Resolution 328A-1995 RESOLUTION NO 328 A -1995 Mayor Pro T em London A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING OCTOBER TO BE THE MONTH OF THE AMERICAS WHEREAS. the Latin American Chamber of Commerce of the Lower Keys has requested that the month of October be declared the month of the Americas; and WHEREAS, the history of the State of Florida and a Hispanic nation first began in 1513 when Ponce de Leon discovered Florida and claimed it for Spain; and WHEREAS, Spanish heritage and Latin American ties were deeply rooted in Florida's past and present; and WHEREAS, there are currently over 1.000,000 citizens of Hispanic origin in Florida; and WHEREAS, Hispanic citizens from all walks of life and from throughout the world have contributed with work, culture and enterprise to the overall prosperity of Florida; and WHEREAS. the State of Florida is called upon historically and geographically to be "the gateway to Latin America" ; and WHEREAS, the expansion of Florida's economic and cultural development is greatly enhanced through the support of Hispanic Floridians; and WH EREAS, it is important for all Floridians and visitors to be cognizant of the many past contributions and future presence of Florida's Hispanic community; now. therefore BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA that the month of October is hereby proclaimed as the Month of the Americas ~ -" -- ~ "0 , .. rrl "" 0 m on -0 N C) \0 ::r:J in Monroe County, Florida. :.:v PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe County,]bridd.:::ht a .. 0 regular meeting of said Board held on the 20thday of September, 1995.
