WHEREAS, the Monroe County Seal reflects a creation date of 1824; and;:;;;. ;;OCT'

WHEREAS, it has been discovered, through research of Florida State arc~s;that'lr,e off~ial

approved by Governor Duval on July 3, 1823; now therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA
that
Section 1.
The County Commission recognizes the official creation of Monroe County on
July 3, 1823; and
Section 2.
The Seal of Monroe County shall be changed to reflect the creation of Monroe
County in 1823; and
Section 3.
Any and all documents issued by Monroe County offices and reflecting the
County's creation date shall, from this day forward, reflect the correct creation date; and
Section 4.
Mr. Jerry Wilkinson is commended for discovering this discrepancy and bringing
it to the attention of the County.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe County, Florida, at a
regular meeting of the Board held on the 20th day of December, 1995.
