RESOLUTION NO. 165-1989
A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING OPPOSITION TO HOUSE
RESOLUTION NO. 1023, A BILL PENDING IN THE
UNITED STATES HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.
WHEREAS, there is pending before the United States House of
Representatives a Bill known as House Resolution 1023, which bill
would authorize the imposition of an additional tax on gasoline
and other motor fuels; and
WHEREAS, any increase in the taxes imposed on gasoline and
other motor fuels would adversely affect the citizens of Monroe
County, by increasing the expense of auto travel to and from the
mainland of Florida and the remainder of the United States, and
such an increase would also adversely affect the economy of
Monroe County, which is heavily dependent on tourism and travel,
by increasing the costs of travel by automobile, and decreasing
tourismh now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF
MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA that
The members of the United States House of Representatives
are urged to vote to disapprove the bill proposed as House
Resolution No. 1023.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY SAID BOARD that the Clerk of the
Board is hereby instructed to forward a certified copy of this
resolution to the Honorable Dante Fascel1, the Honorable Bob
Graham and the Honorable Connie Mack.
