A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF
MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA RECOGNIZING DECEMBER 7TH AS
PEARL HARBOR DAY
A Resolution of the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe
County, Florida recognizing December 7th as Pearl Harbor Day, an
important day in the history of America. That on December 7,
1941 the Japanese Empire attacked Pearl Harbor thereby starting
U.S. involvement in WWII, and the march to freedom for more
people in more countries than at any other time in the history of
man. And that this march was led by the United States of America
and that this continues to this day. That to mark this day in
Monroe County, Florida, all American Flags displayed on Monroe
County Government Buildings, are to be flown at half mast each
December 7th.
WHEREAS, the Veterans Council of Monroe County, being
recognized as a standing advisory committee to the Monroe County
Board of County Commissioners hereby petitions this board to
recognize the importance of December 7th, commonly known as Pearl
Harbor Day.
WHEREAS, the American servicemen who gave their lives on
December 7, 1941 shall not be forgotten.
WHEREAS, that the American servicemen who perished in the
many battles since December 7, 1941, and continue to give their
lives in the name of freedom.
WHEREAS, the battles continue to be fought in foreign
lands with unpronounceable names, and battle lines ill defined.
WHEREAS, that despite the country, the language, the
religion, the color, the race, the reason is always freedom.
WHEREAS, the Veterans Council of Monroe County, Florida
hereby petitions that December 7th be recognized by the Board of
County Commissioners of Monroe County, Florida, as a worthy day
of remembrance, and that from this day forward all American Flags
flying from Monroe County public or government buildings, will be
lowered to half mast between 8:00 a.m. and sunset each December
7th.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of
Monroe County, Florida, at a regular meeting of said Board held
on the 16th day of February, 1994.
