A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMIS-
SIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING
THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION FIVE YEAR
PLAN FOR MONROE COUNTY; RECOMMENDING THAT THE
EIGHTEEN MILE STRETCH BETWEEN KEY LARGO AND
FLORIDA CITY AS WELL AS THE HIGH LEVEL BRIDGE
OVER JEWFISH CREEK BE COMPLETED AS SOON AS
POSSIBLE; THANKING THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANS-
PORTATION FOR REINSTATING PROJECTS IN THE
~N AND MOVING UP EXPANSION OF THE KEY WEST
A:EiPORT TERMINAL; RECOMMENDING A LONG-RANGE
'=P~N TO FOUR LANE U. S. HIGHWAY 1 AND BUILD
BIKE PATHS; AND DIRECTING THE CLERK TO
FORWARD COPIES OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE
DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION AND GOVERNOR.

WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners wishes to approve
the Department of Transportation's Five Year Plan for Monroe
County, now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF
MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, as follows:
1. The Board supports the Department of Transportation's
Five Year Plan for Monroe County.
2. The Board recommends that the four laning of the
eighteen mile stretch between Key Largo and Florida City (either
by a toll road as part of the Florida Turnpike or a regular road)
and the high level bridge over Jewfish Creek be completed as soon
as possible; time is of paramount importance because this route
is necessary for hurricane evacuation and for safety reasons
since this is currently classified as one of the most dangerous
stretches of road.
3. The Board thanks the Department of Transportation for
reinstating plans that had previously been removed and looks
forward to renewed cooperation with the Department.
4. The Board thanks the Department of Transportation for
moving the expansion of the Key West Airport Terminal from
1993/1994 to 1991-1992.
5. The Board recommends a long-range plan to make all of
U.S. Highway 1 four lanes and to build bike paths along U.S.
Highway 1.
6. The Clerk of the Board is hereby directed to forward a
certified copy of this Resolution to the Department of Trans-
portation and the Governor of the State of Florida.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of
Monroe County, Florida, at a regular meeting of the Board held on
the 13th day of December, 1989.
