RESOLUTION NO. 071-1986
A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THAT CITY ELECTRIC
SYSTEM RELOCATE THE TRANSMISSION TIE LINE
FROM TRANSMISSION POLES ACROSS THE SEVEN MILE
BRIDGE CHANNEL TO UNDERWATER CABLE OR A
BRIDGE SITED LOCATION.
WHEREAS, the view across the Seven Mile Bridge is one of the
scenic wonders of not just Florida, but the world; and
WHEREAS, the placement of towering electrical transmission
line poles in the Seven Mile Bridge Channel will create an ugly
scar across a view famous since the days when the Florida East
Coast Railroad ran to Key West; and
WHEREAS,
recognizing that the demand for economical
electricity in the Lower Keys requires the construction of a tie
line, nevertheless, such a line should be constructed in a manner
so as to avoid visual pollution; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF
MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, as follows:
1. The Utility Board of the City of Key West (City Electric
System) is hereby urged to relocate the tie line to an underwater
cable or a bridge route or any other feasible alternative in
order to avoid desecrating one of the most famous views in the
world. The Monroe County Commission stands ready to cooperate
with City Electric System in relocating the tie line across the
Seven Mile Bridge Channel to avoid the visual pollution described
above.
2. The Clerk is hereby directed to send a certified copy of
this Resolution to the Utility Board of the City of Key West
(City Electric System).
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of
Monroe County, Florida, at a regular meeting of said Board held
on the 7th day of March, A.D. 1986.
