2i R~~TION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF
MONRUE ~COUNTY, FLORIDA, RECOGNIZING AN EVENT THAT
~CCURR~ ON THE 23RD OF APRIL, 1982, IN KEY WEST,
FLORIDA, AS HAVING SIGNIFICANCE THROUGHOUT THE FLORIDA
KEYS, AND RESOLVING HEREIN THAT DENNIS WARDLOW INDEED
SPOKE FOR ALL OF THE KEYS WHEN HE PROCLAIMED THE CONCH
REPUBLIC.

WHEREAS, the entire Florida Keys from the Last Chance Saloon
to Key West were blockaded by the United States Border Patrol in
April of 1982, and
WHEREAS, every individual and business in the Keys was
deeply affected by this roadblock, and
WHEREAS, the Federal Courts refused to grant meaningful
relief subsequent to due process attempts to achieve said
relief, and
WHEREAS, Dennis Wardlow stood up to the United States Border
Patrol and Proclaimed the Conch Republic, and
WHEREAS, all persons living throughout the Keys felt that
Mayor Wardlow was speaking for them during this trying period in
history,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISS lONERS OF' MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that, indeed, Mayor
Dennis Wardlow did speak for all of the Florida Keys on that
fateful day in April of 1982 when, "We Seceded Where Others
Failed."
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of
Monroe County, Florida, at a regular meeting of the Board held on
the 20th day of
April
