RESOLUTION NO.
135-1986
A RESOLUTION NAMING THE NEW CRIMINAL JUSTICE
BUILDING IN MEMORY OF J. LANCELOT LESTER.
WHEREAS, J. Lancelot Lester, was a distinguished citizen of
Monroe County and lived in Key West all of his life; and
WHEREAS, J. Lancelot Lester, was the State's Attorney for
Monroe County for approximately 20 years, and served as Key West
City Attorney for many years, and in both capacities rendered
exemplary service to the people of Monroe County; and
WHEREAS, it is only fitting and proper that his memory be
continued by naming one of the County buildings currently in his
memory; and
WHEREAS, a new Criminal Justice Building has been contracted
for and will be erected on the site of old U.S.O. Building, to be
used primarily for the housing of the Sheriff's Department and
its operations; and
WHEREAS, The Board of County Commissioners of Monroe County
have concluded that the naming of this aforesaid building would
be an appropriate method of continuing the memory of the afore-
said J. Lancelot Lester,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND THE COUNTY
COMMISSION OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA:
1. That the new Criminal Justice Building to be erected on
the old u.s.o. location be named in memory of J. Lancelot Lester,
2. That an appropriate plaque be prepared by the proper
County officials to be affixed to said building so as to notify
any and all persons that the building be known as the J. LANCELOT
LESTER, County Building.
PASSED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of said Board held
on the 18th day of April, A.D. 1986.
