RESOLUTION NO. ?7?-1986
A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMIS-
SIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, REQUESTING
THAT THE CONFERENCE COMMITTEE AND BOTH HOUSES
OF CONGRESS APPROVE THE $3 MILL ION REQUEST
FOR KEY DEER REFUGE ACQUISITION.
WHEREAS, The Congress of the United States is in session and
is in the process of finalizing the 1986-87 appropriations bill,
and
WHEREAS, The House of Representatives has approved an
appropriation in the amount of $3 million for additional Key Deer
Refuge acquisitions, and
WHEREAS, The Senate of the United States has approved an
appropriation of $2 million for Key Deer Refuge acquisitions, and
WHEREAS, The joint House and Senate Conference Committee on
appropriations is currently reviewing the Key Deer Refuge
acquisition funds, and
WHEREAS, The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service agrees that the
property known as the Ocean Bluff site on Big Pine Key is
significant both in its contribution to the habitat of the
endangered Key Deer, as well as to the preservation of the Cactus
Hammock on Big Pine Key, and
WHEREAS, the full $3 million included in the House
recommendation is needed to acquire the property described above,
now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF
MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, as follows:
1. That said Board hereby requests that the Conference
Committee and both Houses of Congress approve the $3 million
request for Key Deer Refuge acquisition.
2. That the Clerk of said Board be, and he is hereby
directed to forward a certified copy of this Resolution to the
attention of the Clerk of both Houses of Congress.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of
Monroe County, Florida, at a regular meeting of said Board held
on the 5th day of September, A.D. 1986.
