A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
OF' MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, APPEALING TO THE FLORIDA
CONGRESSIONAL DELEGATION, THE UNITED STATES SECRETARY
OF STATE, THE UNITED STATES SECRETARY OF DEFENSE, THE
UNITED STATES SECRETARY OF THE NAVY, AND THE PRESIDENT
OF THE UNITES STATES TO AlJJDW JOINT MILITARY AND
CIVILIAN USE OF THE NAVAL AIR STATION KEY WEST (BOCA
CHICA) AND REQUESTING FULL COOPERATION AND ASSISTANCE
FROM THE UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT WITH A FEASIBILITY
S'fUDY AND COST BENEFIT ANALYSIS CONCERNING SAME.
WHEREAS, Key West International Airport is severely limited to
the size of aircraft and number of cormnercial flights it can
accommodate, and '"
WHEREAS, the City of Key West has now become fully developed
around the Key West International Airport, and
WHEREAS, due to environmental constraints, a replacement
facili ty for Key West International Airport is no longer feasible,
and
WHEREAS, joint military and civilian use of the Naval Air
Station Key West (Boca Chica) may result in economic benefits to both
'th e Navy and Key West commun i ty, and
WHEREAS, the Board of County Cormnissioners of Monroe County,
Florida is willing to cormnit nearly $60,000 of their airport
improvement program entitlement funds to conduct a feasibility study
and cost benefit analysis for joint use of Naval Air Station Key
West, the scope of work for said study is hereby attached, and
WHEREAS, said study would be incomplete and severely flawed
without the full and complete cooperation and assistance of the
Department of the Navy.
THEREFORE BY IT RESOLVED, that the Board of County Cormnissioners
of Monroe County, Florida hereby appeals to the Congressional
Delegation, the United States Secretary of State, the.,.. United E:tate~
Secretary of Defense, the United States Secretary ofoth~) Na~ aqd
the President of the United states to allow the joi$~}~litary a~
civilian use of Naval Air Station Key West {Brn~i:L -{;hic~ ari9:
