Harvey RESOLUTION NO. 208 -1994 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING MONROE COUNTY TO PARTICIPATE IN THE FUNDING FOR TRANSPORTATION OF NAVAL PERSONNEL AND VISITORS DURING THE PERIOD CommNCING JULY 15, 1994 AND CONTINUING FOR ONE WEEK TO PROVIDE WATER BORNE TRANSPORTATION FOR VISITS TO THE U. S. S. KEY WEST AND ITS TENDER, THE U. S . S. FRANK CABLE, DURING THE VISIT OF THESE SHIPS TO KEY WEST WATERS. and its tender, the U.S.S. Frank Cable, will -."", u \C5 Z' A , .,...., ~-".. r~ U. A ..J WHEREAS, the projected expense for the transportation of civilians to visit the vessels and for the enlisted and commissioned personnel of the vessels to visit the port of Key West and its local businesses will cost a sum in excess of $50,000, and WHEREAS, it is anticipated that 1,600 Navy personnel will spend substantial sums in their visits to Key West thereby exerting a significant impact on the business community of Key West, and WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Key West has already committed the sum of $7,000 to assist in defraying the cost of transportation as aforesaid, and WHEREAS, the City has requested the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe County and Mayor Emeritus Wilhelmina Harvey to match this contribution, and WHEREAS, it is believed that transportation to and from the U.S.S. Key West will promote tourism and be highly beneficial to the citizens of Key West and Monroe County, and WHEREAS, Monroe County desires to affirm and acknowledge its support of the United States Navy and the United States military and their contribution to this area, now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, as follows: Section 1. The Board of County Commissioners of hereby authorizes the County Administrator to expend the sum of $7,000 from tourist development tax revenue to the appropriate representative of the Navy League or such other entity as is charged with the procurement of the water borne transportation as aforesaid, and Section 2. The Board of County commissioners welcomes the U.S.S. Key West and the U.S.S. Frank Cable and their officers and crews to Monroe County, and Section 3. The Board of County Commissioners of Monroe County encourages all of the local businesses and citizens to extend their greetings and appreciation and to extend all courtesies to the Naval personnel from these vessels during the period of their visit to this area.
