A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, EXPRESSING THE BOARD'S
CONCERN WITH THE INFLUX OF CUBANS AND ITS EFFECT ON
THE RESOURCES OF MONROE COUNTY AND REQUESTING THE
UNITED STATES IMMIGRATION AND NATURALIZATION
SERVICE AND OTHER STATE AND FEDERAL AGENCIES TO
ASSIST IN REDUCING THE IMP ACT ON THE COUNTY.
WHEREAS, the numbers of Cubans leaving Cuba by raft has increased greatly,
and
WHEREAS, the impact on the resources of Monroe County and the ability of
Monroe County to deal with these large numers of people is limited, and
WHEREAS, the Governor of the State of Florida has declared a state of
emergency and requsted Federal assistance with respect to certain aspects of the impact of
this immigation, and
WHEREAS, Monroe County IS similarly adversely affected thereby, now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF
MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that said Board hereby requests the United States
Immigration and Naturalization Service and other State and Federal agencies to render
such assistance as possible to assist the County in dealing with the appropriate relocation
and assistance to the immigrants.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by said Board that the Clerk is hereby directed to
forward a certified copy of this resolution to the Governor of the State of Florida, Monroe
County's Legislative Delegation, Monroe County's Congressional Delegation, and the
United States Immigration and Naturalization Service.
PASSED AND ADOTED by the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe
County, Florida, at a regular meeting of said Board held on the 16th day of August, 1994.
