RESOLUTION NO. 278 -1988
A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMIS-
SIONERS REQUESTING THAT ALL OWNERS AND
DRIVERS OF TOUR BUSES ASSIST IN THE PRO-
TECTION OF THE UNIQUE AND ENDANGERED KEY DEER
BY REFRAINING FROM USING GULF BOULEVARD AND
KYLE BOULEVARD ON BIG PINE KEY, MONROE
COUNTY, FLORIDA
WHEREAS, the existence of Key Deer on the Island of Big Pine
Key in Monroe County is at best a fragile one; and
WHEREAS, the said Key Deer are a threatened species and are
deserving of extreme protection; and
WHEREAS, despite the avid interest displayed by tourists,
the very existence of the Key Deer is threatened by excessive
attention and travel in the area of their habitat; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF
MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that the Board hereby requests all owners
and drivers of tour buses who have visited the Port Pine Heights
area of Big Pine Key and whose presence has caused concern among
the community with respect to the protection of the Key Deer to
refrain from using those certain roadways going into Port Pine
Heights, known as Gulf Boulevard and Kyle Boulevard, in order to
contribute to the protection of the Key Deer.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of
Monroe County, Florida, at a regular meeting of said Board held
on the 5th day of July, A.D., 1988.
