Resolution 551-1988 '""' ~- Commissioner Mike Puto RESOLUTION NO. 551 -1988 WHEREAS, the Great White Heron National Wildlife Refuge was set aside, through the efforts of the National Audubon Society in Tavernier, Florida, as a migratory bird refuge to give permanent protection to Great White Herons; and WHEREAS, in the United States the Great White Heron is found only in the southern part of the Florida mainland and in the Florida Keys; and WHEREAS, the establishment of the Great White Heron National Wildlife Refuge protects many rare birds, including the White-Crowned Pigeon, Roseate Spoonbill, Osprey, and other birds, and helps to preserve the scenic character of the Florida Keys; now, therefore BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA that, in recognition of the service provided by the Refuge in preserving the habitat of rare birds and in providing the people of the United States with an oppor- tunity to observe these rare birds in their natural habitats, this day is declared GREAT WHITE HERON NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE DAY PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe County, Florida, at a regular meeting of said Board held on the 1st day of November, A.D., 1988. i"'.- ..... o 9 fC - E: -.:::r \ BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA :::;>- L ~ ......- t,., -' ct::J _J ~ \.J.... .c, Z D ~ Byg~~,_,/.- Mayor rman (SEAL) Attest : DANNY L.
