Each obstruction marker should be constructed using a
12" or 14" steel I-beam thirty feet long. They should
extena at least 10 feet above the high water level, and at
least ~O feet into the bottom. Diamond shaped day marks
with reflective material to conform to USCG requirements
will be bolted to each I-beam. Two panels are bolted at
the top facing in opposite directions, and two panels are
bolted immediately below the first set, facing in opposite
directions, but oriented 90 degrees to the first set. The
markers listed in the above table would be placed in water
depths ranging from 3-10 feet, as close as possible to the
'center of mass of each reef. For'maximum usefulness, each
panel should indicate the name of the reef on which the
marker i& located, as well as the word "shoal".
Sanctuary and Park personnel will supervise
installation of markers for their respective areas.
