RESOLUTION NO. 021-1985
A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING THE COMMITMENT OF THE
MONROE COUNTY COMMISSION, STATE OF FLORIDA,
FOR THE PROPOSED HOMEPORTING OF THE BATTLE-
SHIP SURFACE ACTION GROUP.
WHEREAS, Key West has applied to the United States Navy to
be the home port of the Battleship Surface Action Group (SAG);
and
WHEREAS, there is tremendous community support not only in
Key West but also in the remaining areas of Monroe County for the
proposed location in Key West; and
WHEREAS, the County Commission has expressed its commitment
to the United States Navy for the home port designation;
WHEREAS, it is understood that this will in no way affect
the portion of the harbor now being excess and returned to the
citizens of Monroe County;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the County Commission of
the County of Monroe, Florida, hereby expresses its commitment to
the United States Navy for the proposed homeporting of the
reserve frigates of the Battleship Surface Action Group and
advises that the County is also in support of same; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk is hereby directed to
send a copy of this Resolution to Captain James J. Ridge, Team
leader, Gulf coast Homeporting Study Team, U.S. Atlantic Fleet
Headquarters, Norfolk, Virginia 23511.
This Resolution shall go into effect immediately upon its
passage and adoption and authentication by the signatures of the
presiding officer and the Clerk of the Monroe County Commission.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the County Commission at a meeting
held this 11th day of January, 1985.
