A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, IN
RECOGNITION OF THE LATE ANNIE JOHNSON SANDS,
WHEREAS, Annie Johnson Sands, a life-long resident of Key West, has
passed away at the age of 84, and
WHEREAS, Mrs, Sands, a multi-generation Conch, was an influential,
dynamic force in Monroe County schools organizing fundraising carnivals,
serving as PT A president and later as president of the County Council of the
Monroe, Dade and Collier Counties PT A, and
WH EREAS, Mrs, Sands also worked closely with the Key West Recreation
Department creating the Mothers Club of Key West Twirlettes, which were the
pride of the City during the 1950's and 1960's, marching in parades, performing
at football half-time shows and traveling annually to represent Key West at the
Junior Orange Bowl, and
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners desires to recognize the
late Annie Johnson Sands for her extensive public service and her vast
dedication to the community; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE
COUNTY, FLORIDA, as follows:
Section 1, The Board hereby adopts this Resolution as evidence of its
regret and mourning for the passing of the late Annie Johnson Sands in
recognition of her extensive dedication and vast public service to the people
of Key West and Monroe County, Florida,
Section 2, The Board hereby requests the Clerk to forward copies of this
Resolution to Mrs, Sands' surviving family members to express the Board's sorrow.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe
County, Florida, at a regular meeting of the Board held on the 23rd day of
November, 1994,
