RESOLUTION NO. 292-1985
A RESOLUTION REQUESTING
NATURAL RESOURCES OF THE
INCLUDE MONROE COUNTY,
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL
RESTORATION PROGRAM.
THE DEPARTMENT OF
STATE OF FLORIDA TO
FLORIDA, IN THE
RESOURCES, BEACH
WHEREAS, tourism is Monroe County's main industry due to the
geographical location of Monroe County, in that it consists of a
chain of islands, which is widely acclaimed for its natural
scenery, and
WHEREAS, most tourist come to Monroe County to view its
scenic beauty and to participate in water related activities
namely fishing, snorkeling, swimming and diving, and
WHEREAS, the beach in Key West, Florida is in serious
disrepair. A 1966 survey documents that 37 percent erosion loss
from original fill from 1959, and
WHEREAS, Monroe County has been susceptible to hurricanes and
tropical storms, the beaches have an important storm damage
prevention function, now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF
MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, as follows:
That the Department of Natural Resources of the State of
Florida consider the inclusion of Monroe County, Florida in its
Beach Restoration Program.
