RESOLUTION NO. 188-1984
A RESOLUTION CONCERNING TRAFFIC CONTROL ON
THE 7-MILE BRIDGE; REQUESTING THE FLORIDA
DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO UTILIZE ITS
PREROGATIVES IN REQUIRING CERTAIN DRIVER
CONTROLS TO BE IMPLEMENTED ON SAID BRIDGE TO
STRIVE IN PREVENTING ACCIDENTS THEREON.
WHEREAS, a number of serious and tragic accidents have
occurred on the new 7-Mi1e Bridge since its completion, and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and County Commission of Monroe County,
in the interest of the public safety of the people of this County
and its visitors do request the Department of Transportation to
observe certain recommendations made by the Mayor and County
Commission of Monroe County which is believed would reduce said
tragic accidents, now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF
MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that the Florida Department of Transpor-
tation be requested to set a speed limit on said bridge of 55
miles per hour and a minimum speed of 45 miles per hour thereon
and to post this requirement on said bridge. That this program
be initiated for a period of three months to determine, by study,
its effectiveness.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY SAID BOARD that a certified copy
of this resolution be forwarded to the Florida Department of
Transportation, attention: Executive Secretary.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of
Monroe County, Florida, at a regular meeting of said Board held
