RESOLUTION NO. 278 -1984
A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING MONROE COUNTY'S SUPPORT OF
THE KEY WEST PRESIDENTIAL WORLD OFF-SHORE CHAMPION-
SHIP RACE AND AUTHORIZING THE COUNTY PUBLIC WORKS
DEPARTMENT TO PROVIDE IN-KIND SERVICES TO THE
SPONSOR OF THAT RACE.
WHEREAS, the Key West Power Boat Race Association, Inc. is
again sponsoring the off-shore world championship power boat race
designated the "Key West Presidential World Off-shore Champion-
ship Race" in Key West, Florida, to be held during the week of
November 5, 1984, including two interim races, one on Tuesday,
November 6, 1984 and the other on Thursday, November 8, 1984, and
the final championship race scheduled for November 10, 1984, and
WHEREAS, this Race provides Monroe County and its citizens
with a week of boating activities, as well as national recogni-
tion, and
WHEREAS, the Race provides national and international
recognition for the Florida Keys and therefore provides benefits
to this area even beyond the Race itself, and
WHEREAS, the Race and the boating activities offer wholesome
family entertainment and recreational opportunities, and
WHEREAS, the business community of Key West and Monroe
County will benefit immensely from the race activity through
increased tourism, and
WHEREAS, this Race is an activity which requires the full
support of Monroe County and the Key West area in order to assure
that the Race continues to be the outstanding Race on the racing
circuit, and
WHEREAS, Monroe County and Key West have the best waters and
location to continue these Races and has been the world
championship site for four years, now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF
MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that Monroe County hereby expresses its
support of the Key West Presidential World Off-shore Champion-
ship Race and the associated race activities.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY SAID BOARD that the County Public
Works Department is hereby directed to provide in-kind services
to assist the Key West Power Boat Race Association, Inc., in such
matters as preparing the viewing area at Pier "A", the docking
area, and informational signs providing directions to viewers and
boaters.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of
Monroe County, Florida, at a regular meeting of said Board held
on the 21st day of September, A.D. 1984.
