Resolution 080-1982 RESOLUTION NO. 80-1982 A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY CO}~ISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, DESIGNATING THE FLORIDA KEYS ARTIFICIAL REEF ASSOCIATION AS THE OFFICIAL ORGANIZA- TION IN THE COUNTY, OF MONROE, RESPONSIBLE FOR ARTI- FICIAL REEF CONSTRUCTION, ESTABLISHING LIAISON OFFICER AND ESTABLISHING AN ADVISORY COl1MITTEE. WHEREAS, the Florida Keys Artificial Reef Association has existed since JULY 1980 as Keys-wide-non-profit organization, and, ~~EREAS, the FKARA has, through the efforts of volunteer organizations and individuals successfully completed one artificial reef, and, ~VHEREAS, it is the intention of the FKARA to build artificial reefs throughout the Keys for the benefit of sport fishermen, commercial fishermen and sport divers, and, WHEREAS, the FKARA enjoys the unqualified support of the responsible civic, business and fishing interest throughout the Keys, and, WHEREAS, sufficient funds are available from State and other sources to aid the FKARA in construction of artificial reefs, and, ~~EREAS, those funds are only available to the FKARA through the assistance of Monroe County or some other political subdivision, and, WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe County fully supports the volunteer efforts of the Florida Keys Artificial Reef Association, now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY C01~1ISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that said Board designates the Florida Keys Artifi- cial Reef Association as the official organization in the county responsible for Artificial Reef Construction. AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County's Agricultural Extension officer be designated liaison between the Co~~ission and the FKARA. AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board of County Commis- sioners of Monroe County will sponsor responsible requests for funds from the FKARA to State, Federal and other agencies, as long as the -2- activities of the FKARA comply with all Federal, State and local regulations. AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that by this resolution, an advisory committee is created, whose membership shall include, but not be limited to, representatives of commercial fishing, sport fishing, sport diving and other appropriate business interests from throughout the Keys, which committee shall be appointed by the Commission for a term of one year and, whose function it shall be to review and recommend locations, material and methods of funding for artificial reef projects for which the County Commission will attempt to secure funding. Such committee will serve without com- pensation and may include the officers and members of the Florida Keys Artificial Reef Association. Passed and adopted by the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe County, Florida, at a regular meeting of said Board held on the 23rd day of February, A.D. 1982.
