Resolution 217-1982RESOLUTION NO. 217-1982 A RESOLUTION COMMEMORATING THE COMMENDABLE LIFE- SAVING ACT OF MICHAEL GRIFFIN. WHEREAS, on the evening of June 30, 1982, the two minor children of Mr. and Mrs. Baumgard accidentally were submerged in a 15-20 foot canal in their parents automobile, and, WHEREAS, Michael Griffin, without regard to his own safety, when seeing that a tragedy was eminent, did gallantly risk his own life to save the lives of these two children, and, WHEREAS, Mr Griffin in so doing, did dive into the canal where the automobile was located with his snorkeling gear on and managed to bring the two minor children to the surface. WHEREAS, both children were then unconscious but were resuscitated by CPR and that according to the Volunteer Ambulance Department of Big Pine Key, saved both children from serious brain damage and possibly death. WHEREFORE, THE MAYOR AND BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY do hereby pass this Resolution as an indication of their admiration for'this gallant rescue on the part of Michael Griffin, and that they do hereby express the County's pride in one of its citizens acting in such a commendable fashion. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that an exact replica of this Resolution be presented to the aforesaid Michael Griffin at a regular meeting of the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe County and that the same be spread on the record of such meeting in appreciation for such a selfless gesture.
