Resolution 285-1982 \ RESOLUTION NO. 285-1982 RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING THE VALUE OF THE COMMERCIAL FISHING INDUSTRY AND CRAWFISHING INDUSTRY IN PAR- TICULAR IN MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA. WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe County, Florida, is well aware of the value of the commercial fishing industry, particularly the crawfishing industry, throughout the County and the economic impact said businesses has on the commu- nity, and WHEREAS, it has been brought to the attention of this Board that trap molestation is a serious problem confronting the commercial fishing industries in this County thus creating a need for aggressive and decisive law enforcement by the Monroe County Sheriff, the State Attorney and the Florida Marine Patrol, and WHEREAS, this Board is desirous of assisting the commercial fishing industries in this County in obtaining whatever aid is available to correct the trap molestation problem, now, there- fore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, as follows: 1. That the Monroe County Commission hereby formally recognizes the value of the commercial fishing and crawfishing industy throughout Monroe County. 2. That the Commission also recognizes the seriousness of the trap molestation problem confronting this industry. 3. That the Commission hereby also recognizes the need for aggressive and decisive law enforcement by the Monroe County Sheriff's Department, the State Attorney, and the Florida Marine Patrol. 4. That the Commission supports the need for and hereby requests the Department of Natural Resources and the Florida Marine Patrol to analyze the demand for additional manpower to help stop trap molestation in Monroe County. 5. That the Commission hereby endorses the use of the commercial crawfishing license fee for basic air surveillance in trap molestation enforcement. 6. That the Clerk of this Board is hereby directed to forward copies of this resolution to the Department of Natural Resources, the Florida Marine Patrol, the Monroe County Sheriff, and the State Attorney. PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe County, Florida, at a regular meeting of said Board held on the 1st day of November, 1982.
