RESOLUTION NO. 339 -1982
A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE DEPARTMENT OF
TRANSPORTATION OF THE STATE OF FLORIDA TO
FOUR-LANE U. S. HIGHWAY NID1BER 1 FROM VACA
CUT TO KEY COLONY BEACH INCLUDING IMPROVE-
MENTS TO THE ENTRANCE OF KEY COLONY BEACH.
WHEREAS, at this time the Department of Transportation is
improving State Road 5, also known as U. S. Highway 1, from Vaca
Cut to the entrance to Coco Plum Beach in Monroe County, and
WHEREAS, it is planned to four-lane State Road 5, also known
as U. S. Highway No.1, for this roadway, and
WHEREAS, the Department of Transportation is in the process
of constructing new bridges over the Vaca Cut so that there will
be separate bridges for both north and south-bound traffic over
said Cut, and
~IEREAS, it has been brought to the attention of the Monroe
County Commission that the Department of Transportation has done
preliminary work in resurfacing the east side of Vaca Cut with the
prospect of four-laning State Road 5, also known as U. S. Highway
No.1, from Vaca Cut to the entrance to Key Colony Beach, and
therefore, to not complete this kind of construction is not reason-
able, and
WHEREAS, the City of Key Colony Beach is in need of any and
all assistance it can receive from the Department of Transportation
in aiding it to move its traffic both in and out of Key Colony
Beach, and
WdEREAS, the City of Key Colony Beach is desirous of coordinating
improvements to the entrance to the City onto U.S. 1 with those that
are now being undertaken or to be undertaken by the Department of
Transportation, it being recognized that to do those improvements
at this time will be the most convenient and efficient way of doing
the same, and
WHEREAS, this project, since it is now in process, should be
given full and top priority for the completion in the best and most
efficient manner to accomplish the desired facilities for traffic,
now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE
COUNTY, FLORIDA, as follows:
1. That said Board hereby supports the matters recited in
Resolution No. 163 of the City of Key Colony Beach and that it fur-
ther would request the Department of Transportation to move forward
with the four-laning of State Road 5, also known as U. S. Highway
No.1, from the Vaca Cut bridges to and including the entranceway
of the City of Key Colony Beach.
2. That said improvements on the right-of-way of State Road 5
(U. S. Highway No.1) include turn lanes both east and west-bound
from the aforesaid State Road 5 (U. S. Highway No.1) and to the en-
tranceway of Key Colony Beach as well as an east-bound right turn
lane from the exit of Key Colony Beach onto State Road 5, said work
to be done at the same time and in conjunction with the work now
being done in this area both on the highway itself and the bridges
and that said work be accomplished within one year of the passage of
this resolution.
3. That the Clerk of said Board is hereby instructed to for-
ward a certified copy of this Resolution to the Department of Trans-
portation State of Florida and the City of Key Colony Beach.
Passed and adopted by the Board of County Commissioners of
Monroe County, Florida at a regular meeting of said Board held on
the 13th day of December, A.D. 1982.
