RESOLUTION NO. 085 -1983
WHEREAS, public libraries, as institutions of education for
democratic living, are as essential to a community as public shools
for combatting illiteracy and ignorance, and
WHEREAS, libraries are not only the custodian of our cultural
heritage, but the key to progress in a rapidly changing world, and
WHEREAS, no community or state can afford to curb its citizen's
access to ideas and information, and
WHEREAS, the public should be made more conscious of the role
that libraries playas centers for information, cultural and life-
long self-education, now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE
COUNTY, FLORIDA, that said Board hereby joins the State of Florida
in proclaiming Wednesday, April 13, 1983, as "Library Day".
Passed and adopted by the Board of County Commissioners of
Monroe County, Florida, at a regular meeting of said Board held
on the 31st day of March, A.D. 1983.
