~~~~ONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, REQUESTING
THE MONROE COUNTY TOURIST DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL
TO ALLOCATE FUNDING FOR THE OLD TAVERNIER
TOWN COMMUNITY AND VISITOR CENTER.
WHEREAS, the Old Methodist Church in Tavernier is a
historical landmark in the Upper Keys that represents a
significant record of the architecture of early Tavernier; and
WHEREAS, a decade ago a group of dedicated supporters
transformed the old church into a community center and visitor
center; and
WHEREAS, today the Old Tavernier Town Community Center and
Visitor Center is in financial trouble; and
WHEREAS, financial support is needed to pay the mortgage and
maintain the structure in order to preserve the structure and its
historical significance; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF
MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that the Board hereby requests the Monroe
County Tourist Development to allocate funding in order to
preserve and maintain the historically significant Old Tavernier
Town Community and Visitor Center.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of
Monroe County, Florida, at a regular meeting of the Board held
on the 24th
day of
March , 1993.
