RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING AN ADVISORY BOARD TO DETERMINE
THE FEASIBILITY FOR ESTABLISHING A COUNTY AIRPORT AT
THE ABANDONED MISSILE SITE, HM 405, ON KEY LARGO, MONROE
COUNTY, FLORIDA.
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe County,
Florida. have heretofore passed a resolution directing the.County
Attorney to do what is necessary and required to determine if
Monroe County can acquire the five (5) abandoned missile bases
located in Monroe County, and
WHEREAS, one of said missile bases is located on Key Largo
and consists of two sites with an easement between them, which in
the opinion of the Airport Director could result in a prospective
County -owned airport on Key Largo, and
WHEREAS, it is the desire of the Board of County Commissioners
of Monroe County to establish a Committee to be known as the Air-
port Advisory Committee, to investigate the plausibility and
problems that will be connected.with.the establishment of an
airport at the missile site located on Key Largo and entitled
HM 40 and that said Committee shall be composed of five (5)
residents of Monroe County, Florida, however it is to include the
Airport Director tube an a-d hoc advisory member thereof, and
WHEREAS, it is the desire of the Board of County Commissioners
of Monroe County that the County be -represented on said Committee
by a member of the staff, and
WHEREAS, it is the intent of this Board to utilize said
site, if acquired, to the best advantage as is described and set
forth in the Land Use Plan of Monroe County, particularly with
those sections relating to air travel, the use of airports and
in the development of the same, now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY TIIE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF
MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, as follows:
I., That it is the purpose and intent of this resolution of
the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe County, to establish
an Airport Advisory Committee for the purpose of studying, analyzing,
and doing what is essential and necessary to study and further
the establishing of an airport to be located in. the abandoned
missile site located on Key Largo, Florida in the event that the
site i.s.acauired.
2. The Airport Advisory Committee shall.al.so be empowered
to secure pledges and contributions for the purpose of defraying
the.actual cost of installation of said airport in the event the
land is acquired.
3. It is also provided that said committee shall also
contain as an ad hoc advisor member, the Airport Director, who
shall advise and consult with the Committee in its meetings as to
the various matters which will be brought to their attention and
discussed concerning the establishment of said Airport.
4. The Committee shall from time to time report to the -
County Commission as to its progress and doings as outlined in this
Resolution.
Passed and adopted by the Board of County Commissioners
of Monroe County, Florida, at a regular meeting held on the 16th
day of June, A.D. 1981.
