RESOLUTION NO.294 -1981
A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE FLORIDA LEGISLATURE TO
AUTHORIZE ONE ADDITIONAL JUDGE FOR THE SIXTEENTH
JUDICIAL CIRCUIT OF FLORIDA AND ONE ADDITIONAL
JUDGE FOR MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA; AND CITING THE
JUSTIFICATION OF THE NEED FOR SUCH JUDGES IN
MONROE COUNTY.
WHEREAS, in 1975 the Florida Legislature authorized the
Sixteenth Judicial Circuit, which is composed of Monroe County,
Florida, to have three Circuit Judges, and
WHEREAS, in 1976 the Florida Legislature authorized Monroe
County to have three County Judges, and
WHEREAS, there has been a substantial increase in the permanent
population as well as the transient population of Monroe County
since this authorization by the Florida Legislature for three County
Circuit Judges and three County Judges, and
WHEREAS, since the authorization for said number of Circuit
Judges and County Judges was made, there has been an increase in
all court related matters which roughly indicate a caseload com-
mensurate with the increase in population and an additional increase
during the tourist season in the fall and winter months, now, there-
fore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COl1MISSIONERS OF MONROE
COUNTY, FLORIDA, that the Florida Legislature be requested to make
provision for the addition of at least one Circuit Judge to sit in
the northern part of Monroe County and that further the Florida
Legislature make provision for the addition of one County Judge
for Monroe County, Florida.
Passed and adopted by the Board of County Commissioners of
Monroe County, Florida, at a regular meeting of said Board held on
the 19th day of October, A.D. 1981.
