A RESOLUTION IN RECOGNITION OF
THE LATE EVELYN SEDGWICK ALLEN
WHEREAS, Evelyn Sedgwick Allen was born in 1905 in Mystic, Iowa; and
WHEREAS, she graduated from the Institute of Musical Art of the City of New York
(Juilliard) in 1927, and was a member the honorary music fraternity Mu Phi; and
WHEREAS, Evelyn gave her debut piano concert in 1931 at Steinway Hall, NYC;
and
WHEREAS, she married Robert Porter Allen in 1933 and together they had four
children; and
WHEREAS, in 1939 the Allen family moved to a home in Tavernier with no
electricity, running water or telephone, where she taught music and donated her time
and talent to play piano for the local churches, schools and community programs
WHEREAS, Evelyn Allen was predeceased by her beloved husband Robert and her
two sons, Robert Fleming Allen and Thomas Allen, but leaves her two beloved
daughters, Eve Allen and Alice Allen; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE
COUNTY, FLORIDA, hereby adopts this Resolution as evidence of its regret and mourning
for the passing of the late Evelyn Sedgwick Allen.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe County,
Florida, at a regular meeting of said Board held on the 21st day of November, 2000.
