RESOLUTION NO. 219-1993
RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF
MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, ENDORSING AND SUPPORTING THE
ACTIVITIES OF THE FLORIDA PARKS SERVICE AND THE FRIENDS
OF FORT TAYLOR, INC. IN THEIR EFFORTS TO ACQUIRE FUNDS
TO FINANCE THE REHABILITATIVE ACTIVITIES NECESSARY TO
SAVE FORT TAYLOR.

interest since before the Civil War, and
WHEREAS, Fort Zachary Taylor has been a
for many years and provides both recreation
the Key West area concerning the Fort and its historic importance
in the history of the City of Key West and of Monroe County, and
WHEREAS, Fort Zachary Taylor does, through the collection of
surcharge, provide funding to both the City of Key West and the
County of Monroe for the last several years, and
WHEREAS, its various programs are of interest and attract
tourist to the area as well as provide educational opportunities
and recreational opportunities for the residents and visitors to
Monroe County, and
WHEREAS, the facility is currently suffering deterioration
of the Fort structure and beach erosion, and
WHEREAS, the management of the Fort is in the process of
applying to various governmental and private foundations for
funding assistance to implement its plan of structural analysis
and stabilization of the Fort, and
WHEREAS, Monroe County is an enthusiastic supporter of this
facility, now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF
MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that said Board does hereby endorse and
support the activities of the Florida Parks Service and the
Friends of Fort Taylor, Inc. in their efforts to acquire funds to
finance the rehabilitative activities necessary to save Fort
Taylor and encourages all individuals and other entities to lend
such support as they may to the activities of these organizations
in support of the Fort Taylor State historic site.

Monroe County, Florida, at a regular meeting of said Board held
