Resolution 068-1962 RESOLUTION NO. 68 -1962 WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe County, Florida feels that the present restudy on the ratio of benefits to cost on the proposed extension of the intracoastal waterway from Miami to Key West might not reach the desired ratio required to establish a favorable recom- mendation of the project by the Corps of Engineers, and WHEREAS, the present deadline for the submission of said economic restudy to the District Engineer, U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jackson- ville, Florida, is October 15, 1962, and WHEREAS, said Board desires a reasonable additional time in which to consult engineering and economic experts to determine the feasibility of developing additional economic data and ascertaining if there could be a more economic method of constructing said project, which might justify or establish the ratio which would meet the requirements to justify construc- tion of said project, and WHEREAS, said Board is presently contacting several consultant en- gineering firms for the purpose of further investigation, as aforesaid, to be included in said economic restudy, now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that the District Engineer of the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville, Florida, be, and he is hereby re- quested to grant a reasonable number of days from October 15, 1962, for the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe County, Florida to submit its economic restudy to said Corps of Engineers for recommendation to Congress, in order that said Board may exhaust all possible means of es- tablishing additional data and a probable more economic method of construc- ting said project, which might establish the desired ratio required for the justification of the construction of said proposed inland waterway from Miami to Key West. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY SAID BOARD that the Clerk of said Board be, and he is hereby directed to forward certified copies of this Resolution to the District Engineer, U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville, Florida, with a request that said Board be advised of any action taken by the District Engineer on said request. Dated October 9th, 1962.
