A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, REAFFIRMING THE COMMITMENT
THE KEY WEST, MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, MILITARY

to the Key West, Monroe County, Florida, area; and

WHEREAS, the present reduction in military spending by the
United States Government has required a "centralization" of
military units and operations within the United States, and
WHEREAS, the City of Key West, Monroe County, Florida, is
uniquely situated because of its open air space, weather and
geographic position to facilitate an even larger military
presence than is now in place; and
WHEREAS, it is imperative that the political leaders of this
nation be made aware that the vast majority of the people in the
Key West, Monroe County, area support and encourage the
continuation and expansion of the military presence in the Key
West, Monroe County, Florida, area; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF
MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, as follows:
Section 1.
The Board reaffirms its support for and
recognizes the value of the military presence in the Key West,
Monroe County, Florida, area.
Section 2.
The Board hereby requests expansion of the
military presence in the Key West, Monroe County, Florida, area
as is compatible with this nations military plans and funding.
Section 3.
The Clerk of the Board is hereby directed to
provide certified copies of this Resolution to the United States
Navy, the Department of Defense and Commanding Officer Michael
Currie.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of
Monroe County, Florida, at a regular meeting of said Board held
on the 26th
