Resolution 025-1966 RESOLUTION NO. 25-1966 WHEREAS, The Girl Scouts of America is a n<l>n-profit organization dedicated to the service of and improvement of youth, and WHEREAS, Girl Scout Camp Wesumke, on West Summerland Key, serves and benefits the youth of Monroe County, and WHEREAS, additional land must be added to the camp in order to qualify it as a national camp and in order to complete the camp's programs and round out its activities, and WHEREAS, it is to the advantage of Monroe County to attract campers to the Florida Keys to study marine life and the natural habitat of the area, and in order to encourage the continuation and expansion of a program so valuable to our youth, now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, as follows: 1. That the County lease to the Girl Scout Council of Tropical Florida, Inc. the following described lands, situate in Monroe County, Florida, to-wit: A tract of land northerly of U. S. Highway No. 1 on West Spanish Harbor Key, Monroe County, Florida, and being more particularly described by metes and bounds as follow s : Commencing at the intersection of the northerly right-of- way line of U. S. Highway No. 1 and the easterly property line of Camp Sawyer (existing Boy Scouts of Allnerica prop- erty), extended northerly, bear easterly along the northerly right-of-way line of U. S. Highway No. 1 for a distance of 1000 feet, more or less, to the point of beginning of the tract of land hereinafter described; from said Point of Beginning continue bearing easterly along said northerly tight-of-way of U. S. Highway No. 1 for a distance of 1000 feet, more or less, to a point; thence at right angles and in a northwesterly direction for a distance of 100 feet, more or le:ss, to a point on the shoreline; thence meander the shoreline in a westerly direction for a distance of 1300 feet, more or less, to a point which is bearing North 18 degrees and 30 minut,es West from the Point of Beginning; thence bear South 18 degrees and 30 minutes East on a line which is also radial to the curve of U. S. Highway No. 1 for a distance of 500 feet, more or less, back to the Point of Beginning. ALSO " ,I All of Government Lot 1 in Sections 32 and 33, I~ownship 66 South, Range 30 East, on the Island of West SUx1Pmerland Key, Monroe County, Florida. " 2. That a lease be approved by the County Attorney, which lease will contain the following provisions, to-wit: (a) That the lease provide for a term of 99 years. (b) That the rental charged shall be $1. 00 per year. (c) That the lease provide that in the event the Girl Scouts do not use the lands for a Girl Scout Camp such lease shall terminate forthwith and the title to all improvements shall pass to the County. 3. That Gerald Saunders, Mayor of Monroe County and Chairman of the Board of County Commissioners, and Earl R. Adams, Clerk of the Cir- cuit Court of Monroe County, Florida and ex officio Clerk of the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe County, Florida, execute such lease when so approved.
