Resolution 006-1967RESOLUTION NO. 6 -1967 WHEREAS, it has come to the: attention of -the Board of County Com- missioners of Monroe County that certain _permits to take food fish without restriction as to. gear employed have been--issued-to certain individuals, firms or. corporations, and WHEREAS, .the fishing industry in all its aspects, including commer- cial fishing and sports fishing, contributes in an appreciable degree to the economy of Monroe County, and many of its citizens derive their livelihood from same, and WHEREAS, this Board takes notice. of the fact that use of purse seines, purse gill nets, or other nets using rings or .other devices on the lead line thereof, through which a purse line is drawn, for the taking of fish, is detri- mental to the economy of the County .and the incomes of its citizens in that such gear tends to destroy fish.in extraordinary large numbers and without regard as to .species, and in that use of, such gear tends to deprive the inde- pendent commercial fisherman of any competitive position in the market and thus removes his economic contribution to himself, his family and. the Coun- ty and State, and WHEREAS, the Legislature of the State of Florida has recognized the evils caused _by the taking of fish without, regard to the manner in which they. are taken by the passage of Florida Statute 370. 08 (3), prohibiting the use of purse seines, purse gill nets, or other nets of similar character, now, there- fore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY,. FLORIDA, that the Board of Conservation of the State of Florida be, and the same hereby is requested not to issue any further per- mits to take fish without regard to the gear used and in violation of the statute aforesaid, and to.revoke any. existing such permits, before further harm can be done.
