RESOLUTION NO. 12 -1979
RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE LOCAL HEALTH SYSTEMS
AGENCY AND THE DADE-MONROE COUNTY HEALTH SYSTEMS
AGENCY FOR ASSISTANCE IN REGARDS TO THE POSSIBLE
CLOSING OF KEYS COMMUNITY HOSPITAL LOCATED IN
MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA.
WHEREAS, Keys Community Hospital appeared before the
Board of County Commissioners on January 10, 1979, and requested
the County's assistance in order to assure that Keys Community
Hospital is not forced to close its doors, and
~nfEREAS, Keys Community Hospital has advised that the utili-
zation of the hospital is at the lowest it has been, and further,
that the utilization continues to decrease, and
WHEREAS, if utilization is not increased, the continuing
operation of the Keys Community Hospital is in jeopardy, and
WHEREAS, the County and Health Systems Agency have an
agreement whereby Health Systems Agency shall provide assistance
and evaluation in regards to the medical services provided in
Monroe County, and
WHEREAS, the Health Systems Agency has not yet completed
the study for the Upper and Middle Keys Hospital Services, now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF
MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, as follows:
1. That Monroe County does request that the Health Systems
Agency recognize the urgency of the situation and allocate the
necessary resources to work with Keys Community Hospital to complete
a study which addresses the options for providing hospital services
in the Upper Keys.
2. Further, that said study be completed in three months,
with recommendations being forwarded to Keys Community Hospital
and the Board of County Commissioners.

3. That the Health Systems Agency immediately give this
request top priority due to the urgency and needs of the citizens
of Monroe County.
4. That the Clerk forward certified copies of this
resolution to the appropriate Health Systems Agency personnel and
the Monroe County Legislative delegation for their appropriate
assistance and action.
