Resolution 087-1979RESOLUTION NO. 87 -1979 A RESOLUTION REQUESTION THE CITY OF KEY WEST TO PROVIDE FOR A JOINT DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE NAVAL STATION LOCATED IN KEY WEST, FLORIDA. WHEREAS, the County and the City previously joined in the formation and operation of the Key West and Lower Keys Development Corporation, and WHEREAS, said Corporation's existence will terminate as of June 30, 1979, and WHEREAS, the City of Key West is presently proposing to establish its own development commission as a continua- tion and/or extension of the Key West and Lower Keys Development Corporation, and WHEREAS, the development of the Naval properties are both important and vital elements to Monroe County and the City of Key West jointly, and WHEREAS, the health, safety, welfare and economic well being of all the citizens of Monroe County will be affected by the disposition of the property, and WHEREAS, both Monroe County and the City of Key West have vested interests in and to said property, and WHEREAS, at the time of the disposal of said property by the appropriate Federal Agency, action on the part of both public bodies will be required, now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA: 1. That the City of Key West, prior to adopting any ordinances setting up a separate and autonomous commission, join with the County of Monroe and establish a joint com- mission for the benefit of all citizens of Monroe County to assure that the impact upon Monroe County and all of its residents is considered. 3. That the City of Key West's cooperation is re- quested and required in order that minimal funds and efforts are expended in establishing the mutual final plan and de- velopment of said Naval Base, such that said plan and de- velopment reflects the joint concurrence of both public bodies in order to allow for the fastest disposal by G.S.A. of said properties. 4. That the Clerk of the Board is hereby directed to forward certified copies of this resolution to the City of Key West. This resolution shall go into effect immediately upon its passage and adoption by the Board of County Commissioners.
