Resolution 502-1993 . t:"1\ ~[l r , l~.:". _ .' ;) r r~ (1 p '93 DEe 17 P 4 :02 Planning Department ~'\JNH RESOLUTION NO. 502-1993 --- A RESOLUTION BY THE MONROE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS GRANTING THE DESIGNATION OF "HISTORICAL AND CULTURAL LANDMARK" TO THE KEY LARGO ANGLERS CLUB CLUBHOUSE AND DOCKMASTER'S BUILDING. THE BUILDINGS ARE LOCATED ON THE FOLLOWING PROPERTY: A PORTION OF GOVERNMENT LOT 1 AND 2, ISLAND OF NORTH KEY LARGO, END OF STATE ROAD 905, SECTION 12, TOWNSHIP 59 SOUTH, AND RANGE 40 EAST, TALLAHASSEE MERIDIAN, KEY LARGO, MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA. RE# 00080020-000300. /' WHEREAS, the Clubhouse and Dockmaster's Building (hereafter the buildings) are club facilities for the Key Largo Anglers Club, are located at 50 Clubhouse Road, and have served as the activity center for a fishing club since at least the early 1930s; and WHEREAS, the buildings meet the criteria for designation of "historical and cultural Landmarks" as specified in Section 9.5-452 (a) & (c) of the Monroe County Code. Amended. in that they are associated with events of historical significance to the cultural and social history of Monroe County; and they reflect an architectural style that is d,istinct and includes elements of traditional Florida Keys character; and Page 1 of 4 WHEREAS, the procedures for landmark designation set forth in Section 9.5 -453 of the Monroe County Code, Amended, have been followed, in that: 1. The proposed designations were initiated by a citizen of Monroe County, Mr. Christopher B. Everhart, in a letter to the Director of Planning dated April 21, 1993. 2. The proposed designations include a boundary description, address, and a narrative description of the structures. 3. The proposals establish the basis for the designations under Code Section 9.5-452, and include other evidence that sup- ports the designations, as set forth in The Key Largo An- qlers Club 1885 1985, and the "Key Largo Anglers Club Supporting Documents", which document the historic, cultural and architectural significance of the clubhouse and dockmaster's building. 4. The proposed designations have been reviewed by the Historic Florida Keys Preservation Board, which recommends the build- ings for local historic designation, as evidenced in a July 9, 1993 letter from the Board's Manager. 5. The proposed designations have been reviewed by the Planning Director, who recommends the buildings for landmark designa- Page 2 of 4 tion, as stated in the staff report to the Monroe County Planning Commission dated August 25, 1993. 6. The Monroe County Planning Commission, during a regular ses- sion held on September 1, 1993, conducted a public hearing on the proposed designations, reviewed the request from Mr. Everhart and the recommendations of the Historic Florida Keys Preservation Board and the Director of Planning, and heard testimony from the public. 7. The Planning Commission voted at said public hearing to recom- mend to the Monroe County Board of Commissioners that the Board grant the designation of "historical and cultural Land- mark" to the buildings, as stated in Planning Commission Resolution No. P32-93; and WHEREAS, the Monroe County Board of Commissioners has consid- ered the proposed designations and the recommendations of the Historic Florida Keys Preservation Board, the Director of Plan- ning and the Planning Commission; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA THAT: The Anglers clubhouse and dockmaster's Club are hereby designated building at the Key Largo as historical and cultural Page 3 of 4 Landmarks, as provided by Article VIII of the Monroe County Code.
