Public hearing of an Ordinance authorizing a Lump Sum Years of Service Award to
certain eligible volunteer firefighters who each have provided at least ten (10) years
of fire, rescue and emergency medical services to the residents and visitors of
Monroe County and each have reached the age of sixty.
ITEM BACKGROUND
This is an award to volunteers who now would have been eligible for the Length of
Service Awards Program (LOSAP) had that program been in place all along. The
minimum requirements for this award are that the volunteers have provided at
least ten (10) years of service and are at least 60 years of age.
PREVIOUS RELEVANT BOCC ACTION
Approval to advertise for one public hearing at the August 18, 2004 meeting.

AN ORDINANCE OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF
MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING A LUMP SUM YEARS OF
SERVICE AWARD TO CERTAIN EUGIBLE VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTERS
WHOM EACH HAVE PROVIDED AT LEAST TEN (10) YEARS OF FIRE,
RESCUE AND EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES TO THE RESIDENTS AND
VISITORS OF MONROE COUNTY AND WHOM EACH HAVE REACHED THE
AGE OF SIXTY; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABIUTY; PROVIDING FOR THE
REPEAL OF ALL ORDINANCES INCONSISTENT HEREWITH; PROVIDING
FOR INCORPORAnON INTO THE MONROE COUNTY CODE OF
ORDINANCE; AND PROVIDING AN EFFEcnVE DATE
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE
COUNTY, FLORIDA, that:
Section 1. A Lump Sum Years of Service Award for calendar year 2004 will be
payable to the following listed volunteer firefighters whom each have provided at least ten
(10) years of fire, rescue and emergency medical services to the residents arid visitors of
Monroe County, Florida and whom each have reached the age of sixty (60), In the amounts
specified.

Section 2. The funds allocated to be used to pay the lump sum awards shall be paid
from Fire & Rescue District 1 Budget, 141-11500-530340 and Key Largo Volunteer Fire
Budge~ 146-12500-530340.
Section 3. If any section, subsection, sentence clause or provision of this ordinance
Is held Invalid, the remainder of this ordinance shall not be affected by such Invalidity.
Section 4. All ordinance or parts of ordinances in conflict with this ordinance are
hereby repealed to the extent of said conflict.
Section 5. The provisions of this ordinance shall be Included and incorporated in
the Code of Ordinances of the County of Monroe, Florida, as an addition or amendment
thereto, and shall be appropriately renumbered to conform to the uniform numbering
system of the Code.
Section 6. This ordinance shall take effect when a certified copy of this ordinance
has been accepted by the postal authorities of the United States for special delivery by
registered mail to the Secretary of State of the State of Florida In accordance with the
provisions of Florida Statute 125.66(3).
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe
County, Florida, at a regular meeting of said Board held on the day of
September, 2004.
