RESOLUTION NO. 227-1976
WHEREAS, the Veterans Council of Monroe County has re-
quested the Board of County Commissioners to approve the attached
resolution, now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF
MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that it hereby approves the attached
resolution and directs the Clerk to forward certified copies of
same to the officials named'in said resolution.

:WHEREAS, there is a compelling need for a medical facility in Monroe County
by virtue of a large veteran population of disabled veterans, military
retirees, other veterans,' and their dependents, and
WHEREAS, the nearest VA medical facility is located more than 160 miles from
Key West, 110 miles from Marathon and yet a great distance from such areas
as Islamorada and Tavernier, and
WHEREAS, there are Positive signs pointing in the very near future the phasing
out of the U S Naval Hospital in Key West, Fla, and
WHEREAS, if and when the U S Naval Hospital will be phased out, that a satellite
clinic be established by the Veterans Administration in the present structure
Of the Naval Hospital
THEREFORE, be it,resolved that the Veterans Council of Monroe County support.
the establishment of a VA clinic in the event of the closing of the present
U S Naval Hospital in Key West, Fla, and
THEREFORE, be it further resolved that copies -of this resolution be forwarded
to the proper authorities to show the desires of veterans of Monroe County
toward the establishment of VA medical facility.

this Zj_th day of December 197A, upon the recommendation of the Veterans
