Resolution 019-1962 RESOLUTION NO. 19-1962 WHEREAS, the State Road Department of the State of Florida has almost completed the four-laning of U. S. Highway #1 from Jacksonville to Florida City, Florida, and WHEREAS, the only other portion of said U.S. Highway #1 which has not been four-laned is that portion between Florida City and Key West, Florida, and WHEREAS, said portion of U.S. Highway #1 in Monroe County, Florida is the only state primary road within Monroe County, Florida, and the only means of travel between the Florida Keys and the mainland of Florida, and WHEREAS, the traffic on said highway is steadily increasing, and it is evident that said highway should be four -laned, and WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe County, Florida deems it necessary for the safety, convenience and welfare of the travelling public, as well as the citizens of Monroe County, Florida, to four-lane said portion of U. S. Highway #1 between Florida City and Key West, Florida, now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that the Governor of the State of Flori- da, the State Road Department of the State of Florida, and any other in- terested agencies be, and they are hereby urged and requested to take im- mediate action to four-lane U. S. Highway #1 from Florida City to Key West, Florida, most of which lies within Monroe County, State of Florida. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY SAID BOARD that the Clerk of said Board be, and he is hereby authorized to forward certified copies of this Resolution to the Governor of the State of Florida, the State Road Depart- ment of the State of Florida, and any other interested agencies, with a re- quest for immediate action.
