Resolution 034-1965 RESOLUTION NO. 34 -1965 SECONDARY ROADS WHEREAS, Hurricane Betsy struck Monroe County on September 8, 1965, filling streets, highways and public facilities with seaweed and other debris, and washing away parts of streets and avenues, making traffic al- most impassable, and WHEREAS, a state of emergency existed, requiring prompt action on the part of the Board of County Commissioners, to prevent a health hazard and to make possible travel on the roads of the County, and WHEREAS, said Board of County Commissioners, acting as the Mon- roe County Civil Defense Council, did authorize Civil Defense officials to engage the servic e of contractors to remove the seaweed and debris, and to repair said roads, as an emergency measure, and WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners does not have suf- ficient funds with which to pay said contractors performing the above ser- vices, and WHEREAS, said Board desires to request the Trustees of the Internal Improvement Fund of the State of Florida to loan to Monroe County, Florida a sum not to exceed $100,000, to pay for such necessary emergency work, which said sum shall be repaid from any emergency funds received by said County as a result of said County being declared a disaster area, andlor out of Monroe County, Florida Secondary Road Funds, and WHEREAS, said Board desires to authorize the State Road Department to reimburse the Trustees of the Internal Improvement Fund out of Monroe County, Florida Secondary R,oad Funds, for any funds expended on said emer- gency work, not to exceed $100,000, in the event federal emergency funds are not forthcoming within a year from the date of this Resolution, now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that the Trustees of the Internal Im- provement Fund of the State of Florida be, and they are hereby requested to loan to Monroe County, Florida a sum not to exceed $100,000, to pay for the necessary emergency work in removing seaweed and debris and repair- ing roads in Monroe County, Florida as a result of Hurricane Betsy, and the State Road Department be, and it is hereby authorized to reimburse said Trustees of the Internal Improvement Fund, out of Monroe County, Florida Secondary Road Funds, for any amount not to exceed $100,000 that may be borrowed from said Trustees, in the event Monroe County, Florida does not receive the necessary federal emergency funds within a year from the date of this Resolution, as a result of said County being declared a disaster area. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE SAID BOARD that the Clerk of said Board be, and he is hereby authorized to forward certified copies of this Resolution to the Trustees of the Internal Improvement Fund of the State of Florida and to the State Road Department, for appropriate action.
