A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF
", ,MONl~OE,'COl)NTY, FLORIDA NAMING CALOOSA COVE BEACH IN
f'lClNRCirM~RY OFt'ANNE K. EATON.
WHEREAS, in 1989, the residents of Lower Matecumbe Key,
Monroe County, Florida were desirous of creating a new and
unique recreational facility for the public, residents, and
visitors in the Lower Matecumbe Key area, and
WHEREAS, to preserve and to protect an area known as Caloosa
Cove Beach from continued improper and illegal camping use, as
well as from destruction by continued automobile usage on the
beach area, residents of the area, organized and led by Anne K.
Eaton joined together to clean and maintain the beach area, and
to seek means for long-term development and maintenance, and
WHEREAS, with cooperation from Monroe County, temporary
closings of access points to the Caloosa Cove Beach area were
purchased and installed by Mrs. Eaton and local residents in
order to limit use until long-term park development was assured,
and
WHEREAS, Monroe County subsequently arranged lease of the
properties known as Caloosa Cove Beach from the Florida Board of
Trustees of the Internal Improvement Trust Fund and the Florida
Department of Transportation, and
WHEREAS, on October 11, 1989, the Board of County
Commissioners of Monroe County, Florida authorized the
application for a grant from the Florida Department of Natural
Resources under the Florida Recreation Development Assistance
Program, and
WHEREAS, on May 22, 1990, a grant for $120,000 from the
Florida Department of Natural Resources under the Florida
Recreation Development Assistance Program, was awarded to Monroe
County for the Caloosa Cove Beach Park project, which project is
now underway, and
WHEREAS, Anne K. Eaton, in addition to developing and
guiding the spirit of the community in establishing the Caloosa
Cove Beach Park and leading protection and redevelopment efforts
for the accomplishment of such a unique park, also was known for
her community philanthropy and, together with her husband, the
late Cyrus Eaton, instituted world-wide efforts on behalf of
global peace and nuclear sanity, and became a well-loved member
of her adopted community of the Upper Keys and Lower Matecumbe
during the past twenty years, now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF
MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, as follows:
Section 1. The Board of County Commissioners of Monroe
County, Florida, on behalf of her community and in loving memory
of Anne K. Eaton, do hereby proclaim and name the area known as
Caloosa Cove Beach Park to be "Anne's Beach", as a living memory
of her tireless efforts on behalf of the Florida Keys and the
world of which our community is a part.
Section 2. The Board of County Commissioners hereby
directs an appropriate plaque to be placed at "Anne's Beach" to
commemorate forever our recognition of Anne K. Eaton and her
community spirit.
Section 3.
Such plaque shall be unveiled at the formal
dedication of "Anne's Beach" upon completion of Park
construction.
Section 4.
This resolution shall become effective
immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of
Monroe County, Florida, at a regular meeting of said Board held
on the 11th day of March, 1992.
