A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF
MO~ROE CduNTY SUPPORTING THE CONCEPT OF REGIONAL
~1JN~l.AN"Njf.NG r ~~UNCILS AS THEY ARE NOW CONSTITUTED AND
OPPOSING ANY ACTION TO SUNSET FLORIDA'S REGIONAL
PLANNING COUNCILS.
WHEREAS, Monroe County has been an active participant in the
programs and activities of the South Florida Regional Planning
Council; and
WHEREAS, the South Florida Regional Planning Council
provides a forum for Monroe County to work collectively with
other local governments in the Region to resolve common problems;
and
WHEREAS, the South Florida Regional Planning Council carries
out programs such as hazardous materials planning, hazardous
waste monitoring, Development of Regional Impact review,
historic preservation planning, post-disaster hurricane impact
analysis, regional economic development assessment as well as
many other programs and studies of regional concern; and
WHEREAS, local governments in the South Florida Region have
helped fund the Council's activities; and
WHEREAS, the South Florida Regional Planning Council
provides an opportunity for local input on the implementation of
the State's activities and programs; and
WHEREAS, Monroe County recognizes that the Council enhances
local governments' ability to act as a partner to State and
Federal Governments; and
WHEREAS, the South Florida Regional Planning Council serves
as a source of technical and growth management related informa-
tion and technical assistance for local governments in the
Region; and
WHEREAS, through input into the Regional Plan, local
governments are afforded the opportunity to communicate a local
perspective into the State Planning Process;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, as follows:
Section 1. Monroe County supports the concept of
regional planning councils as they are now constituted and
opposes any action to sunset Florida's Regional Planning
Councils.
Section 2. The Clerk of the Board is hereby directed to
forwaro copies of this Resolution to: Governor Lawton' Chiles;
Lt. Governor Buddy McKay; Senate President Gwen Margolis; House
Speaker T. K. Wetherell; Senator Lawrence H. Plummer and House of
Representatives Ron Saunders.
Section 3. The Clerk of the Board is further directed to
fax a copy of this Resolution to Senator Lawrence H. Plummer and
House of Representatives Ron Saunders.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of
Monroe County, Florida, at a regular meeting of the Board held on
the 1lSb day of March, A.D. 1992.
