A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF
MONROE COUNTY t FLOR IDA, OPPOS ING SALES TAX ON FUELS
USED IN THE GENERATION OF ELECTRICITY AND REINST~T>>NG)
THE SALES TAX ON SERVICES.
WHEREAS, the Governor of the State of Florida has proposed
that the State generate additional revenues by implementing a
sales tax on fuels used to generate electricity, and reinstating
the sales tax on services; and
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe County,
Florida, is strongly opposed to the Governor's proposed sales tax
on fuels used in the generation of electricity; and
WHEREAS, nearly 50 percent of the customer charges for
electricity are derived from the fuel/energy component of the
electric bill; and
WHEREAS, commercial and industrial customers already pay
State sales tax on their entire electric bill, which includes the
fuel/energy component; and
WHEREAS, utility customers simply cannot carry an additional
tax burden in this'a recession year;
NO'W, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, as follows:
Section 1.

The Board of County Commissioners on behalf
of all of our citizens does hereby express its strong opposition
to the Governor's proposal to tax fuels used in the generation of
electricity and to reinstate the sales tax on services.
Section 2.

The Clerk of the Board is hereby directed to
forward copies of this Resolution to: Governor Lawton Chiles;
Lt. Governor Buddy McKay; Senate President Gwen Margolis; House
Speaker T. K. Wetherell; Senator Lawrence II. Plummer and House of
Representatives Ron Saunders.
Section 3.

The Clerk of the Board is further directed to
fax a copy of this Resolution to Senator Lawrence H. Plummer and
House of Representatives Ron Saunders.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of
Monroe County, Florida, at a regular meeting of the Board held on
the 11th day of March, A.D. 1992.
