Resolution 058-197040. RESOLUTION NO. 58-1970 WHEREAS, the official United States census for the year 1970 indicates an increase in the population of Monroe County, Florida of only 3% since 1960, and, WHEREAS, the public school system in Monroe County, Florida in 1960 had 7, 060 pupils and in 1969 had increased to 9, 900 pupils, and WHEREAS, the electric system in said County, in 1960 had 10, 597 meters and in 1969 had increased to 14, 218 meters, and, WHEREAS, the telephone system in said County, 1960 had 10, 669 phones and in 1969 had increased to 19, 892 phones, and, WHEREAS, the water system in said County, in 1960 had 11, 220 meters and in 1969 had increased to 17, 444 meters, and WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe County, Florida, feels that the above increases strongly indicate a greater increase in the population of said County, and feels that possibly many residents of said County were not included in the 1970 census, and WHEREAS, the said Board feels that a recount by the U. S. Census Bureau would indicate an increase of more than 3% in said County's population, as shown by said 1970 census, now therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA., that the U. S. Census Bureau be, and it hereby is requested to take a recount of the population in Monroe County, Florida without delay. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY SAID BOARD that the Clerk of said Board, be, and he is hereby directed'to forward a certified copy of this Resolution to the appropriate Federal Officials with a request for a recount of the population of Monroe County, Florida.
