Resolution 097-1970 RESOLUTION NO. 97 -1970 WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe County, Florida, feels that the windstorm insurance rates in Monroe County are excessive and work an undue hardship on the citizens of Monroe County, and WHEREAS, said excessive rates were the result of an approved rate increase in 1968 by the State Insurance Commission in an effort to induce carriers to write windstorm insurance in Monroe County, Florida, and WHEREAS, carriers did not respond and write said windstorm in- surance in support of the excessive rate, and WHEREAS, the Florida State Legislature, in the 1970 session passed an Act making it mandatory for insurance companies to provide windstorm coverage in Monroe County, Florida, and WHEREAS, said Board feels that the exces sive rate increase is not justified inasmuchas a hurricane has not caused any damage in almost 4 years in said County, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that the State Insurance Commissioner be, and he is hereby requested to hold an emergency public hearing m Monroe County, for the following purposes: (1) To consider reducing the windstorm insurance rates In said County by at least 20%. (2) To reduce windstorm insurance rates in said County by at least 50% for those persons covered by flood insurance, which has now been made available in said County by the Federal Government. (3) To consider establishing a more equitable means of promulgating windstorm insurance rates in Monroe County. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY SAID BOARD that the clerk of said Board be, and he is hereby authorized to forward a certified copy of this Resolution to the Florida State Insurance Commission.
