RESOLUTION NO.
131- 1973
WHEREAS: The citizens of this Nation and this State live in
freedom because of the sacrifices and contributions
made by those who served in the Armed Forces of the
United States of America in time of national danger~
and
WHEREAS: There are over one-million veterans in the State of
Florida who continue their devotion to the highest
ideals of citizenship, and constitute a foundation
of both the strength and progress of this State~ and
WHEREAS: It is in the best interest of all the State that its
citizens express their gratitude for these sacrifices
and remind themselves of the great price of liberty~
and
WHEREAS: The Legislature of the State of Florida has approved
a bill dedicating November 11 of each year to the
cause of world peace and has designated that date to
be known as "Veterans Day" henceforth and forevermore~
and
WHEREAS: On May 17, 1973, the approved bill was signed into law
by the Governor of the State of Florida~ now
THEREFORE: I, HARRY HARRIS, Mavor, Monroe County, Florida
do hereby proclaim November 11, 1973, as "VETERANS
DAY" in Florida, and urge all citizens of our State
to remember the sacrifices and contributions of all
those who served this Nation in time of war to pre-
serve our cherished heritage of freedom, and further,
that we dedicate ourselves to the task of promoting
world peace as the greatest reward which might be
bestowed upon these warriors of liberty~ and it is
further ordered that November 11, 1973, be observed
as a legal holiday in Florida.
