HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 143-1973 RESOLUTION NO.l43-1973 A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA SUPPORTING TAXATION OF ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES TO FINANCE COM- PREHENSIVE ALCOHOL PREVENTION CONTROL AND TREATMENT WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe County, Florida, is the governing body of said County, and WHEREAS, said Board supports the comprehensive alcohol prevention control and treatment provided through governmental services, and believes that the "Myers Act" can be an effective means to combat alcoholism, and WHEREAS, said Board is aware of the fact that the Counties of Florida can- not afford the implementation and running of the program proposed by the F1ori- da Legislature. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MON- ROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, as follows: 1. This Board proposes that the financing of the comprehensive alcohol prevention control and treatment provided through governmental services, and commonly known as the "Myers Act" lies within the realm of taxation on alcoholic beverages for the explicit and specific purpose of financing said program, rather than upon the several individual Counties of the State of Florida. 2. This Board strongly urges the Legislature of the State of Florida to enact legislation to accomplish the above purpose. 3. A copy of this Resolution shall be spread on the minutes of this meet- ing and copies shall be sent to the following: a. The Honorable Reuben O'D. Askew, Governor of the State of Florida b. The Honorable Mallory E. Horne, President of the Florida Senate c. The Honorable Terrell Sessums, Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives d. The Honorable Fred Tittle, District 120, Florida House of Represen- tatives e. The Honorable Ralph Poston Sr., State Senator, District 38 f. The Honorable Richard A. Pettigrew, State Senator, District 39 g. The Honorable Don Gruber, State Senator, District 40 h. The Honorable Sam Armour, President, State Association of County Connnissioners i. The Honorable William J. Roberts, General Counsel, State Associa- tionof County Connnissioners. j. The Honorable T.
